Statement of Purpose:
The E. Glenn Hinson Lecture Series honors the life and work of Dr. E. Glenn Hinson. The series, established in 2009 in honor of Dr. Hinson’s 50th year of teaching, explores formational, foundational, and/or future issues in the areas of his passion: spiritual formation/ spirituality, church history, ecumenism, and Baptist history.

About Dr. Hinson:
Glenn Hinson, a graduate of the Washington University in St. Louis (B.A.), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (B.D., Th.D.), and Oxford University (D.Phil.), has spent his life in seminary education. In 1992, after teaching church history at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, for thirty years, he helped in the founding of a seminary in Richmond, Virginia, until his retirement in 1999. He has since kept busy teaching at Candler School of Theology, Louisville Presbyterian Seminary and Lexington Theological Seminary and currently as Senior Professor of Church History and Spirituality at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky.

Glenn is the author or editor of 26 books and more than a thousand articles and book reviews. From its beginning he has served on the Board of Weavings and is a frequent contributor. Glenn was a member of the Faith and Order Commissions of both the National and World Council of Churches. He has taken part in numerous dialogues, including the international dialogue between Baptists and Roman Catholics and is a member of the Ecumenical Institute of Spirituality. He has been a faculty member for the Academy for Spiritual Formation since its founding in 1983 and is a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.

Glenn is married to Martha Burks. They have two children, Christopher and Elizabeth, and two grandchildren, Garrison.
